Welcome to the website of Loughquittane N.S. Killarney, Co. Kerry. We are a co-educational school catering for children from Junior Infants through to 6th class. Situated in beautiful Muckross, a mere 5 minute drive from Killarney, our school has been educating children for over 140 years since its foundation in 1870.
Our school community is a vibrant partnership between pupils, parents, teachers and staff. Ongoing contact is maintained through parent teacher meetings and the child’s journal. The school principal, Mrs. Ann O Donnell is delighted to welcome prospective parents and will give them a tour of the school.
The staff of Loughquittane N.S. work as a highly committed team, ensuring a happy, productive learning environment for all our children.
Children with special needs or those who are experiencing learning difficulties receive extra support from our learning support teacher and our resource teacher.
Events include School Sports, Soccer Blitz, Music & baking etc. Recently we have been awarded our 4th Green Flag by an Taisce in recognition of our environmental awareness Green School Project as well as achieving the status of a Health Promoting School which was granted to us by the Department of Health in recognition of our efforts to promote healthy eating and hygiene standards amongst the children.
Loughquittane N.S. is committed to the total development of each child in our care, taking a holistic view of the child’s education through Academia, Sport and the Arts, ensuring each child who leaves our care does so as a well rounded individual ready for the challenges the next step in their education will present. Our aim is to encourage respect for self and for others in the context of learning.
Facilities within the school include ample access to computers for each child, a resource room for indoor activities such as drama and music etc as well as a large outdoor play area including a basketball court and an all weather astro turf football field.
We strive to ensure that the time your child spends with us is a happy one and our aim is to have each child smiling both at the beginning and the end of each school day.
If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to call and say hello!!!
Our 5th & 6th Class pupils have been busy taking part in the wonderful Cycle Right programme, learning all about bike handling, road safety, and responsible cycling.
Through practical sessions and expert guidance, the children have gained confidence and essential skills for cycling safely in their local community. Today the children were taken in groups in as far as Killarney Town to practice their newly learned skills. Everyone had a great day out and we have had great fun participating in the programme, as well as learning how to care for our bicycles, minimise risk before setting off, and how to keep ourselves safe on our roads.
Thanks to our wonderful instructors Pat & Conor from The Wheelie Good Academy for their time, energy and encouragement! 👏
This initiative was part funded by money raised at some of the events organised by Loughquittane N.S., Parents Association many thanks to you all for supporting the great work they do.
We delighted to be a beneficiary of the Killarney Rotary Club Wine and Art Night once again this year.

A bittersweet day in school yesterday as we bid farewell to our lovely Mary Moynihan who has worked in our school for nearly 20 years. Mary has been one of the first faces to greet the children every morning as she helped them from their cars and always had a smile on her face to ensure they started the day on a very positive note. During her time here, Mary was a real mother figure to all the students lucky enough to have crossed her path, and I dare say she could go into the Guinness book for records for the amount of knees she bandaged during that time! Each of the classes said a few words about her and the affection they have for her was very evident from what they said.
While we are sad to see her go, we are very happy to see her walk out the door healthy and happy as she looks forward to the next chapter in her life. Thank you for all you did in our school Mary, and every blessing going forward. We will be delighted to see you when you come back to visit. ... See MoreSee Less
We had a superb day today as we went to see the students of Killarney Community College perform Aladdin 🎭 It was a superb production from start to finish and we would highly recommend you buying tickets to see the pantomime for yourself. We were very proud to see some past pupils treading the boards, thanks to all involved for the kind invite. We are looking forward to next year already! ... See MoreSee Less

We recently turned the school red to raise money for Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. This is a very worthy charity and one which is very close to our hearts here in Loughquittane NS. Everyone dressed up in red for the day and brought in a donation for the hospital through which […]
