Music
Budding musicians are well catered for in Loughquittane N.S. with weekly music lessons with Henry Cronin, a local music teacher. Children can learn to play a wide range of musical instruments with anything from the tin whistle to the banjo and everything inbetween being played at the moment. There is particular emphasis on the learning of traditional Irish musical instruments and each year during the traditional Irish music festival ‘The Gathering’, the school welcomes a host of musicians from near and far to the school. These engage in a traditional Irish music ‘Seisiún’ where they demonstrate a wide range of musical instruments and listen to our budding music stars perform for them. This year we enthralled visitors from as far away as Canada who were both delighted and very impressed by the standard set by our musicians.
The school choir also performs each year during the First Holy Communion ceremony adding beautiful hymns to our school’s special day out in Muckross Church.
Each room also performs a Christmas play for the rest of the school and all the parents each year and we have great fun dressing up and playing our parts in front of the big audience!!
